  • ASTC’s Allied members are:

    • Non-profit or for-profit organizations—or North American Federal, State, provincial, tribal, or local government agencies—that support the purpose of the Corporation and share its vision of increasing understanding of and engagement with science and technology among all people, but that are not and do not operate science centers or museums.

    • Independent contractors and consultants that offer products or services to the science-center community.

    • New emerging science centers and museums that are under development and not yet open to the public—or non-profit organizations, universities, and government agencies that are managing the development of an emerging museum. 
      If you are an emerging science center or museum that is set to open by October 1, 2027, please instead complete the Science Center and Museum membership application.


    Other nonprofit centers, museums, zoos, gardens, aquariums, planetariums, and similar organizations that are currently open to the public are encouraged to join ASTC as Science Center and Museum members.

     

     

    All new members must be approved by the ASTC Board of Directors. New member applications are accepted year-round and are reviewed on a quarterly basis according to the schedule below.


    New Member Applications Submitted by:

    April 9, 2027

    • Will be reviewed by the ASTC Board of Directors in mid-April 2027.
    • All applicants will be notified of the Board's official decision by late April 2027.

    June 4, 2027

    • Will be reviewed by the ASTC Board of Directors in early June 2027.
    • All applicants will be notified of the Board's official decision by late August 2027.

    October 22, 2027

    • Will be reviewed by the ASTC Board of Directors in late October 2027.
    • All applicants will be notified of the Board's official decision by mid-November 2027.

    December 1, 2027

    • Will be reviewed by the ASTC Board of Directors in mid-December 2027.
    • All applicants will be notified of the Board's official decision by late December 2027.

    Additional application deadline(s) for later in 2027 to be announced.

     


    Membership Dues

    Allied membership dues are assessed based on organization type, which correspond to one of the four membership categories:

    • Independent Consultant
    • Non-profit*
    • For-profit
    • Supporter

    *For organizations under the non-profit category, membership dues are assessed based on the organization’s annual operating revenue from their most recently completed fiscal year. For the purpose of membership dues, ASTC defines annual operating revenue as: all earned revenue including gross revenue from all museum operations, film, and exhibit rentals; all private and public (government) support, all restricted and unrestricted grants, and all interest and endowment income.

     
    Membership terms for Allied members run for 12 months, with a cycle start date that is determined by the quarter in which the organization joins ASTC.
